New York City Boroughs

New York City educates more than a million children each school year. New York is made of up five boroughs, or surrounding areas, Brooklyn, Bronx, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island. Some of their hardest to fill positions are found outside Manhattan, like Queens and the Bronx. With so many schools in the larger New York City area, it can be a great place to secure a teaching position. It is also cheaper for teachers to live outside of Manhattan, making the teaching salary, which is one of the highest starting salaries, go a lot further.

In addition to competitive teaching salaries, their are also incentives for new teachers to work in the highest-need schools. The Teachers of Tomorrow Program is an opportunity for a newly hired certified teachers to earn an additional tax-free grant of $3,400 for each year of satisfactory service up to four years for a total of up to $13,600.
