Twin Peaks Dude Ranch: Salmon, Idaho

The words “dude ranch” might conjure up a lot of things in your mind- cowboys, horses, and even lasos. That’s only a tidbit of what’s in store if you spend some time at a real dude ranch.

Twin Peaks is known for its secluded private ranch, rafting on the Salmon River, and exceptional riding terrain- but there’s much more in store if you take this wild west adventure.

Getting There:

Flying: The closest airports are in Missoula, Montana, or Idaho Falls, Idaho. Search for flights now.

Driving: Rental car or complimentary transportation Sunday to and from Missoula, Montana or Idaho Falls, Idaho is available to Twin Peaks guests. It’s 18 miles south of Salmon off Highway 93, 3 hours south of Missoula.

Top 5 Activities:

1. Horseback Riding

Your trip to a dude ranch wouldn’t be complete with hopping on the back of a horse. Twin Peaks features Appaloosa, Paint, Ponies (for kids), Quarter, and Thoroughbred horses. During the weekly orientation you “meet” your horse and hopefully become fast friends.

2. White-Water Rafting

Depending on how wet the summer has been to the area, there are different routes for white-water rafting that can have various levels of difficulty. Hang on and enjoy the ride- there’s nothing like getting wet on a rafting trip with family and friends.

3. Fishing

Fly Fishing equipment available or you can fish on your own. Lake fishing is available on property for trout. You can also go Spin Fishing. Equipment is available for guests, as well as instruction. Both lake and river fishing are available on the property.

4. Archery

If you missed this class in your own upper level education classes, it’s time you learn the joy of shooting with a bow and arrow. Not only is it fun to hit the target, but you never know when the skill will come in handy.

5. Cattle-herding

Unless you’re a cowboy through and through, this opportunity doesn’t present itself ever in life unless you have aspirations for the rodeo. Ride along experts, watch, and learn how it’s done. The heavy sound of hooves will make your heart race.

Lodging:

Rated by AAA as a “Three Diamond” property. The cozy original cabins are separate one and two-bedroom units with three-quarter baths. The newer, more spacious cabins are comprised of three side-by-side cabin units. They are available individually or together to provide connecting accommodations for up to six. The end units have whirlpool tubs. The center unit features a queen size bed, three-quarter bath and game table. It converts into a comfortable sitting room during the day.

Summer Climate:

The highs average in the mid-70’s while the lows are expected to be in the 40’s.
